little details

Top: J.Crew / Pin: Chanel / Earrings: BaubleBar (sold out, love these) / Sunglasses: Ray-Ban

Hello! A quick post today with just some little details of an outfit I wore on my birthday last week. I couldn't not match my earrings to my new top, right? And then throw on my Chanel pin too.

Hope you are all doing well! I took a major spill with my horse yesterday, so I'm feeling like I never want to leave my bed again. (Although that's not too far off from how I usually feel, so.)

Top: J.Crew / Jeans: American Eagle / Shoes: Gucci (love these) /
Bag: J.W. Anderson (J.W. on sale here) / Earrings: MadewellSunglasses: Karen Walker

Happy and bright for today! It's lovely outside, a scary sign of climate change perhaps but a welcome gift on my birthday week nonetheless. Although I am, as always, cramped with work, I was happy to steal away for lunch today and take these photos in the sunshine. Showing off my new duds in the process, of course. Yesterday was my birthday and although I'm not sure my one at the Ritz in London could ever be topped, it was still pretty wonderful. I was happy to have a chill birthday this year with cake and bowling and movies and yes, this lovely little red bag as a gift. I'd been attempting to save up my money for a J.W. Anderson bag because why wouldn't I want something that already has my initials emblazoned on it??? But when I saw this one on TheRealReal in my ideal color and hundreds of dollars off, I optimistically put it on my birthday list. Did I mean for them to match my new red Gucci loafers (that I got at a thrift store for a steal of 70 bucks, who cares if they're too small)? No, but those are the little things in life that you've just got to appreciate. Or maybe that's just me.

Anyway, I hope you have a great rest of your day! And week, too! Thanks for stopping by. And thanks to all of those who made my birthday so lovely with their words and kindness!

1 - OPI "Patience Pays Off" Nail Polish / 2 - Madewell Bandana / 3 - Madewell Sweater /
4 - BaubleBar Tassel Earrings / 5 - I'm So Tired Pin / 6 - Aldo Blush Block Heel /
7 - Red Beret / 8 - Topshop Red Top / 9 - Mango Bee Bag / 10 - Sam Edelman Lace Up Flat

Hi all! A very, very happy Friday! I'm certainly excited since it's my birthday weekend, and tonight will consist of bowling, movies, and chocolate chip cookies. Pretty much my perfect kind of birthday (though the official day isn't until Monday).

This wishlist is really just for fun - I already know my main gifts - a new computer and a trip to Harry Potter World (ugh, so excited, finally, can't wait, etc.). But I'll most likely end up buying one of these things for myself as a birthday treat anyway ;)

Of course, I always try to be aware of those in need during a time that can get quite materialistic. And so, I humbly present a list of my favorite charities, like I did at Christmas, for possible donations.

Worldwide Orphans Foundation

Famicos Foundation

Hope you all have a lovely weekend! Thanks for stopping by.

weekly notes, vol. 12

Saturday, February 11, 2017

  • Look of the Week: Priscilla was one of the first bloggers I ever followed, and although I don't speak a lick of Spanish and most of her outfits aren't available in the US, I'm still obsessed with her trendy style. I mean, look at this color combo!
  • Instagram of the Week: I am continuously in awe of all of the protesters out there marching for what's right. I recommend following this Instagram account which captures all of the great signs of resistance. I love James Baldwin, so this sign was a favorite of mine.
  • What I've Been Reading: This month's book for book club is We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler. I can't say much without giving it all away, but it's about a dysfunctional family and social psychology. I just got to the big twist and I like well enough so far!
  • What I'm Listening To: For some reason I've been really bad lately about listening to new music. And a lot of my favorite artists have been coming out with new stuff, too, so I have no excuse! Charlene Kaye's song Parakeeter, about what a big-mouthed idiot Trump is, is unfortunately a little too real right now (but oh so good).
Apparently this week's notes are brought to you by the color mustard.

wearing a tapestry

Jacket: Just Female (here in black, or similar, similar) / Bodysuit: Samantha Pleet
Jeans: TopshopShoes: Zara (some sizes here, similar) / Bag: Pop & Suki

Hello everyone! It's another frigid and frosty day outside here, so I'm throwing it back to when I took cover in the art museum. Although I'm at the museum every week (working in its Education department, which I love!), I rarely get to take my time walking around. This time we went for the Kara Walker exhibit, who is one of my absolute favorite artists. I thought it only appropriate to wear a piece of art...this amazing bodysuit by Samantha Pleet borrows from one of my most loved artworks, this Middle Ages tapestry of a unicorn:

I've been lucky enough to stare in awe at this piece in the Cloisters on numerous occasions! I was also lucky enough to get Samantha Pleet's dress version of this for Christmas, but that didn't stop me from going ahead and getting the bodysuit version, too. Uh, it's all in the name of my love for art?

Coat: Ralph Lauren (also love this color) / Sweater: Topshop (on sale!) /
Jeans: TopshopBag: vintage Dooney & Bourke (similar) / Sunglasses: Karen Walker

Happy happy Friday, everyone! I've done nothing but sip hot chocolate and paint today, and it sure feels nice. We've suddenly had our blast of winter here, but I don't mind in the least because this time I was fully prepared. While I love all my current coats (I think coats and shoes are my biggest weaknesses!) I finally had to admit that none of them were all that warm. Stylish? Yes. Nice fit? Yes. But warm? Yeah, sadly not.

So when I thought of warm, my mind went to shearling. I had my eye on this Topshop shearling coat but it didn't quite fit. I searched and searched but nothing was the right color, shape, price, etc. Then finally this lovely Ralph Lauren one popped up, was on sale, and I was in faux fur-lined heaven. The hood! The warmth! The leather accents! It also comes in a nice chocolatey brown color, if you'd like to feel like you're actually a mug of hot chocolate. Mm.

(Also I just realized now I probably shouldn't have worn dark purple lipstick. With my red cheeks it kind of looks like my lips are frozen and about to fall off. Whoops...)

Anyway, I've linked to a few more shearling coats below. Hope you all have a relaxing weekend! Thanks for stopping by.
