2017 recap

Sunday, December 31, 2017

This year, I:

A busy year as usual, but again filled with traveling and spending time with my loved ones. I'm really glad that I have my blog/Instagram as a way to track the year, and remember all of the amazing experiences I was fortunate to have (especially in the garbage fire that 2017 was). And of course, I managed to get dressed throughout the year...

I thank you again, as always, for clicking your way to this humble blog of mine. I find it a silly thing to be doing with my life sometimes, but it's a lot of fun and going in to the new year, I think I could use that.

decorations of red on a green christmas tree

Friday, December 22, 2017

Jacket: BlankNYC (here with studs, here in pink) / Sweater: Topshop (similar) / Jeans: Topshop /
Shoes: rag & boneBeret: Nordstrom (similar) / Bag: Poshmark (total Gucci knockoff lol)

This post is brought to you by the coziest sweater!! I've worn it so much over the past several weeks that I a) accidentally wore it to eat at the same restaurant with my same friends weeks apart and b) wore it to babysit the same little boy a few days apart. Whoops? But honestly a red sweater is completely appropriate at all times throughout December and even more so when you're shopping for your Christmas tree. I also wore this new bee bag (and no, I'll never have enough bee things) without knowing it was a knock-off of a Gucci bag. I knew Gucci was all about bees this past season (b**** stole my look) and I don't think I'd knowingly buy a designer knock-off, but at the prices they were asking, I really don't feel guilty. It's the holidays, so, like, #treatyoself.

gift guide for the guys

Wednesday, December 20, 2017

1: Kiehls' Ultimate Man Refueling Set / 2: James Bond Aston Martin Model / 3: Allbirds Wool Running Shoes / 4: Herschel Backpack / 5: World's Smallest Drone / 6: Barbour Cable Knit Hat

It is a truth universally acknowledged that guys are the hardest to shop for. My first instinct is to always buy them an outfit I know would be amazing on them but even I have to admit that my taste is not always what other people want for themselves. So I try to stick to safer options, but then I run the risk of being boring. But when you find a winner it's hard not to reach for it year after year! So here are some tried-and-true gifts I have given over the years. The Kiehls set is an absolute winner - I've bought it for both my dad and my brother and they love it. I also think any Herschel product is a good choice. That mini drone was what my dad bought for himself. They'll probably use it bug you and/or the cat. Have fun with that!

unintentional bumblebee dressing

Monday, December 18, 2017

Coat: Topshop / Sweater: Madewell (on sale!) / Pants: Anthropologie /
Boots: Beau Coop (similar) / Bandana: Madewell / Sunglasses: Karen Walker

Did not realize until I put all these photos together here that I basically wore a non-costume bee outfit. Black and yellow stripes with more yellow accents... Whoops! Just in my nature to accidentally channel my love for bees at all times. Of course the pink coat is a bit out of costume but if I were a bee I would definitely accessorize with pink somehow (pink flower petals as a skirt? Possibly getting too into this mental picture now).

I believe this is my last outfit from my time in Ireland! We spend the last few days in Galway, where my family is from, and I always marvel at how busy and lively the city is despite its small size (it's barely twice the size of my American suburb!). Of course being a European city during late November, there was a Christmas market bustling with stalls and ferris wheels. We strolled around, amazed at how many times my family's name appeared throughout the city - we are known to have the best butcher shop around, but I was surprised to find out that we have award-winning pudding, too. Totally embrace the fact that my family is food-oriented. We didn't end up trying any of the family claim to fame though - something to do on the next trip.

Hope you all are enjoying the holiday season! I'd say it's about time for a break, yeah?

7: Comme Des Garcons Converse / 8: Madewell Star Earrings

I always feel super vain and materialistic making these sorts of posts, even though every other blogger has one and every Christmas celebrant probably also has a list going, too. Some of these gifts are more extravagant than I expect to even get (looking at you, Away suitcase). Others I would happily buy myself, but I guess putting them on the Internet for potential gift-givers to see doesn't hurt. Anyway, as a surprise to no one, shoes dominate this list as well as anything sparkly. Tis the season, right?

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep

Friday, December 8, 2017

Cape: Old Navy (similar, similar) / Sweater: old, similar / Jeans: Topshop /
Boots: SperryHat: Topshop (similar)

The beautiful castle we stayed at in Ireland has acres of grounds to explore. Walking by the river, through the woods (to grandmother's house?) and around the property was so relaxing. Some people even reported seeing wild pigs in the woods! I just saw some adorable fat birds, which is just fine by me.

While I would love to be back in the wild Irish countryside right now, looking at these pictures is making me cold and I am happy to be snuggled in my warm bed right now. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
