Dress: LOFT (old, similar) / Jacket: Blank NYC / Shoes: Topshop / Glasses: BonLook

Isn't it a truth universally acknowledged that if an outfit looks good the first time, you should just keep wearing it? Of course you'll never see fashion bloggers doing that. However I wore nearly this exact same look two years ago and I'm bringing it back - with some updated pieces again. Not even going to lie, I bought this dress because I saw it on Kendi and yep, I put the collared blouse under it this time to just cement my wannabe look. Oh well, imitation and flattery and all that.

I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving, if you celebrate! I did, but I also tried to keep my mind on the injustices that are still happening around our country. In the spirit of giving, here are a couple ways you can help support Standing Rock against the Dakota Access Pipeline.

As always, thanks for reading.

dear boots, i love you

Top: H&M / Jeans: Topshop / Boots: Rag & Bone / Necklace: Madewell (old, love this) /
Bag: Charming Charlie (old, similar) / Sunglasses: Ray-Ban / Lipstick: Topshop "Inhibition"

Well I guess I took a bit of a break there? Goodness knows I needed it. I already expressed my feelings about the election, but right now it's crunch time in school too, and it seems like every kid I've ever babysat had an emergency situation this past week...

Anyway, moving forward, or on to the present really, which is all about these boots. I went to the mall to get lipstick. Just lipstick, I swear. My favorite red lipstick (Revlon) broke and my mom wanted to get foundation. We did actually start out there, to our credit. It's just that the makeup section is right across from the shoes section and you can see all the Stuart Weitzman's towering over everything, begging to be tried on... And I did try on the Lowland boot, just to see what all the fuss was about, and I decided that I'm just not made for over-the-knee boots. But these rag & bone boots on the other hand were made for me. I'm talking perfect fit on the first try, buttery soft leather, so easy and comfy to walk in, a sleek but killer look...just the total package. It'll probably take me like two years to pay off these babies but I can definitely see myself wearing them like, daily, for years to come. We fashion types talk in terms of cost per wear anyway so these beauties will pay for themselves (shh that's what I'm telling myself).

Hope you all are doing well! Looking forward to the upcoming holidays for some time to relax.

a throwback to happier times

Scarf: Old Navy (in stores, similar, similar) / Top: J.Crew (on sale!) / Pants: LOFT /
Boots: Topshop (similar) / Bag: Madewell (similar, similar) / Sunglasses: Karen Walker

A throwback to happier times, AKA about four days ago.

I feel a lot of heavy darkness around me. Of course I also feel some silliness then in posting "pretty pictures" on my blog. But I will not let my fear keep me from my enjoying my life. I will continue to look for the beauty in every day, and to continue to do the things I love, if that means shopping or blogging or drinking milkshakes. If that seems superficial then be it. We all cope in the ways we must.

To all of you who are LGBTQ, Muslim, Jewish, female, and people of color - I am with you. The world is bigger and better than hate would make it out to be. We will get through this.

In the words of one of my favorite writers (I always turn to them in times of tragedy), Samuel Beckett:

You must go on.
I can't go on.
I'll go on.

How I style my Boden velvet suit for Autumn, just add trainers!
  • Look of the Week: Ugh, velvet on velvet and in the form of a suit?? Please and thank you. I'm now having major outfit envy thanks to Kristabel.
  • Blog I've Started Following: I started following Courtney and immediately my feed was filled with vibrant colors, adorable outfits, and that beautiful smile of hers! I am flat-out in love with this outfit - those colors together? That jacket, those shoes? L-O-V-E.
  • Instagram of the Week: Okay how fun are these earrings from bando? I don't know if I could ever pull them off, but I'm kind of wanting to give it a try.
  • What I'm Reading: After finishing The Underground Railroad, which was phenomenal, our next book club pick is My Name Is Lucy Barton which catalogs a woman's broken relationship with her mother, her harsh childhood, and her current mysterious illness. I'm about halfway through (it's a short read!) and I'm enjoying the sparse but poetic writing so far.
  • What I'm Wishlisting: I have too many jeans. But I don't have any stepped hem jeans, so this ASOS pair has made my I-shouldn't-spend-money-but-I-can-dream wishlist.
