old town

Sweater: Topshop (size down!) / Shirt: J.Crew
Skirt: Target, old (similar, similar) / Boots: Topshop / Sunglasses: Karen Walker

I was super excited when I saw this Topshop sweater at the Nordstrom sale. It looked so incredibly cozy and I loved the patchwork pattern. Then I saw it was a size 2. Then I saw that it was the only one in stock. Let me tell you, the last time I wore a size 2, I probably was 2. Anyway, the point is that this sweater is crazy comfortable and way oversized, almost to the point where one size fits all.

But moving away from the superficial shopping to the sights and the strolling. For this day we took a boat to Gamla Stan, or Old Town, which encompasses its own little island. It's got the most colorful buildings and alleyways in Stockholm - including the famous "narrowest" alleyway in Europe! (I didn't even attempt to go down it.) We came across this little square and fell in love, taking cover under the big tree when an unexpected rainstorm struck. We later found out that this square - Stortorget - is known for not only being the cutest little square but also the bloodiest (due to the Stockholm Bloodbath of 1520). Don't worry - I'm pretty sure all that violent history has flowed down the cobblestones and washed down the drainpipes. (Except that gnome below was pretty gruesome...)

weekly notes / vol. 2

Okay, another week down, haven't lost speed yet!

IMG_9332

  • Look of the Week: How sweet is Noelle's look? I adore those shoes, and I absolutely want to do my hair like that!
DSC07615
  • Blog I've Started Following: I'm always super happy to find blogs that make a point to style low-cost items. Katie's outfits always feature at least one item from Target, which is way too fun.

  • Instagram of the Week: Brie Larson and Natasha Lyonne hanging out together? Brie Larson and Natasha Lyonne hanging out in gorgeous jackets together? Brie Larson and Natasha Lyonne hanging out in gorgeous jackets at an event which celebrates women in cinema? Okay, you get it. Obsessed.

  • What I'm Listening To: A week from today, I'll be transported back to my adolescence. Just kidding, but I will be seeing Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato in concert, which is so very 2009 (or 2013, when I took this photo at a Jonas Brothers concert, RIP). In preparation, I've been listening to Nick's new album, Last Year Was Complicated. The boy's grown up!
  • What I'm Watching: Stranger Things. Duh. #wheresbarb (Illustration by Edwardian Taylor.)
  • What I'm Wishlisting: I know, I know, chokers are everywhere. But this one from BaubleBar is just so delicate and lovely.

the perfect dress

Dress: COS (other pattern) / Sneakers: Topshop
Bag: Kate Spade (in purple) / Sunglasses: Ray-Ban / Lipstick: MAC Ruby Woo

Guys, this might be the Perfect Dress. I honestly have way too many dresses and should definitely not be buying any more, but this one ticked all my boxes. Comfy? Check. Nice silhouette without being form-fitting? Check. Lightweight but still cozy? Check. Perfect combination of black and navy so I don't go crazy trying to match it? Check!! I mean, could it get any better? Actually it can - this dress comes in another pattern, which I totally snatched up, too.

I hadn't realized I was repping Sweden with this dress - I knew COS was European, and H&M's sister brand, but I didn't know it was out of Sweden! I can totally see it now, with all its perfect minimalism and neutrals and chic basics. I don't think I fooled anyone that I was Swedish in this outfit (the dark hair pretty much gives it away), but it was perfect for romping around some museums! We went to the modern art museum, which I loved, and it had a fun sculpture garden with blown-up Picasso pieces. I promise I had more fun than my flat-mouth-emoji face looks. Also lol that I always forget to take off my Fitbit. This dress may go with everything, but a dark purple wristband is definitely hard to coordinate!

Thanks for stopping by, and hope you had a great Monday!

weekly notes / vol. 1

Image from my Instagram.

Am I like the most inconsistent blogger or what? I mean, aside from irregular posting schedules and going on vacations and stuff. I always try to start a "feature" (style crushes, outfit inspirations, wishlists, inspiring videos, you name it) and try to make it a weekly thing but that never seems to pan out. Instead I make wishlists when I feel like it and post other people's outfits when I'm not able to get my own up. But this time! This time will be different! (I have feeling that anyone who utters that is doomed.) This time will just be a nice, easy record of what I've been enjoying this week. It'll go something like this:

  • Look of the week: Devon absolutely killed it with this color combo. I also love the mixture of structures in this look - the flowing tie-neck blouse and the long, high-waisted slacks. Gorgeous!
  • Blog I've Started Following: I just followed Rose and I can't get enough of her dreamy photos and on-point outfits. Plus that hair! #coolgirlgoals

  • Instagram of the Week: Okay hopefully my own Instagram picture won't be used for this slot every week but, hey, whatever. I managed to get up closed and personal to some adorable puffins during my time in Iceland. Look at these babies!!
  • What I'm Watching: Trying to catch up on Mr. Robot (Rami Malek, marry me pls). Gotta psych myself up for it though because oh man can it be overwhelming (but so so good, right?). Image by emtommaso).

  • What I'm Listening To: Just before I left for my trip, my friend and I saw The Last Shadow Puppets in concert. If you're unfamiliar, it is the utterly devastatingly perfect combination of Alex Turner (yes, the Arctic Monkeys Alex Turner) and Miles Kane. They just released their second album a few weeks ago and it is perfection. Haven't stopped listening!

  • What I'm Wishlisting: I love anything with a high neck, and I could totally see myself transitioning this ASOS top from summer to fall. (Plus, it's on sale!)
And that's it for volume one of my weekly notes!

Rockin Stockholm

Jacket Blank NYC / Top: bp / Jeans: Topshop /
Boots: Jeffrey Campbell / Sunglasses: Ray-Ban / Lipstick: Mac Ruby Woo

Hej, hej! My first post from my travels! I'd say this was a pretty good depiction of the weather in Sweden - warm enough for a sleeveless top during the day, cool enough to throw a jacket on at night. What with Stockholm being the home to all things minimalist and leather (think Acne!), I happily wore my best puchase from Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale, this Blank NYC jacket. It was such a good price and it's super high quality (I would have loved to got it in green, too!). This top was also an NSale purchase because I can't stay away from anything in windowpane pattern.

We took these photos in a charming little park near Nytorget, which is a pretty hip part of Stockholm from what I could see (based on the restaurants and what people were wearing). We came back here once more during our trip for some chic shopping and eating. I'm putting together a hefty guide on Stockholm (we spent a week there!) so look out for that soon!

lace-up

Dress: H&M (similar, similarsimilar) / Shoes: Zara (similar, similar) /
Bag: Talbot'sSunglasses: Ray-Ban / Lipstick: Topshop "Rio Rio"

Hi all! So I hopped on the lace-up trend train. Wait, actually, that's not totally true. I've had these Zara shoes for over a year and this dress didn't come with the lace-up style. It was a big v-neck that was actually too big on me (tbh I think the whole dress is too big on me... #ohwell) and the tassels kind of just...hung there. So I took a hole puncher to the dress. Didn't know if it would actually work, but considering I paid about $12 for this dress I was willing to get a little messy. And I don't think it looks too shabby!

I wore this to celebrate one of my only days off this week (though I technically still worked in the morning). My dad and I took a trip to the West Side where we munched at Happy Dog, played dozens of tokens worth of pinball games, and rounded it all out with some homemade ice cream sundaes

Right now I'm roaming around Sweden or Iceland and you can bet I looked up some style inspiration before I packed my bags. I am totally on board with the chunky knits, suede, and any and all layering! I haven't been to either of these places before, and I am always down for cooler temperatures in the summer, what with me buying AW16 items already. And I mean, Nordic fashion is just way too hip...
