Blazer: Forever 21 (similar) / Turtleneck: Banana Republic / Skirt: Topshop (sold out)
Boots: Topshop (similar) / Bag: Chanel / Sunglasses: Karen Walker / Headband: Dillard's (similar)

Hi all! Happy post-holiday-it's-Monday-already Monday. For those of you cybering it up today, I wish you well! (I instead must use my internet connection and speedy typing for grad school essays...)

I spent my Thanksgiving in New York, just like last year, although this time we just stayed in Brooklyn. This lovely park is right across the street from our hotel so we spent many a stroll here with our dog (yes we took our dog on a roadtrip to New York - crazy?). It was actually super mild while we were in New York, which illogically made me sad because you know how much I love to wear my winter coats. Oh well! My blazer-turned-light-jacket was just as fun and functional. Plus I like to think that not only did I blend in with the fall foliage with my neutral ensemble, but also with all the hip cool Brooklynites who just have that air of "oh I threw this on" and yet look insanely chic. I tried, but at the end of the day I think it's still pretty obvious that I'm just a small town girl who roadtripped here with her dog.

Hi all! Although I can't deny that I love wintery/Christmas songs, I think that the autumnal season is often overlooked for its musical offerings. I actually love those songs which remind me of fall the most, so here is a small selection for you as you make your way to wherever you're going for Thanksgiving.

Happy listening!

Coat: Ted Baker (slightly cheaper in navy) / Scarf: Forever 21 (similar) / Jeans: Topshop
Boots: H&M / Bag: Vintage Chanel / Sunglasses: Karen Walker / Lipstick: Topshop 'Wicked'

Took these photos a few weeks ago when it was still relatively mild for November. Now, of course, the ground is covered in snow and I've got to spend an extra ten minutes getting ready to leave the house. Here I'm only wearing one winter-blocking accessory - this scarf from Forever 21. It is insanely soft. Like wear-to-bed soft. Unfortunately it's just a bit shy of being the size of a blanket scarf, the unfortunately being in that I have no idea how to style it. Basically I just shove it under my coat and hope for the best.

Speaking of coats, this is one of the two Ted Baker coats I now own. Yes, after lusting after this British brand for so long and continually never doing anything about it, I finally spent my literal first paycheck on two winter coats from Nordstrom Rack. Thankfully they were both discounted, so that two of them equaled the price of just one full-price coat. Unfortunately I think the Ted Baker sale was a limited time event at Nordstrom Rack, as I can't find my coats at those discounted prices again. You can bet that I will keep my eyes out though!

Hope you all had a lovely weekend! Here's to prepping for winter.

Watch This Wednesday: Time To Go To Work

Tuesday, November 17, 2015

It seems insensitive and false to try and keep on like nothing has happened. Like all the tragedies that have affected every part of the world had a set duration, a time limit, to be mourned and then pushed aside in favor of picking up our normal lives again. Only natural, of course. Balancing large-scale tragedy and our "normal" lives is almost too much. Can we be blamed if we all go back to watching Netflix, playing with our pets, stressing about work that, in the grand scheme of things, is ultimately infinitesimal? I don't think so. But it's at the these times that I always turn to what my favorite authors have to say. I find that writers whose works I admire can have a guiding presence in other areas of my life than just my love of literature. So here is Toni Morrison speaking on how to keep pushing, keep working, in the face of political and social tragedy and hardship.

Shoes: Zara / Headbands: Dillard's (similar, similar) / Gloves: Aldo / Earrings: Kate Spade

My online shopping may have gone down (except not really because I just ordered this sweater) but actual trips to the mall have increased. I like to think that I'm investing in pieces for the winter - I defintely needed new gloves and these were only $15 and they have the special finger pad things that make it work on your iPhone! #priorities

Ok and uh maybe the rest of these items aren't exactly helping me brace for the cold, but they are pretty and shiny and I can wear them to my job so don't worry about it all my purchases are practical also just leave me alone okay???

Just kidding. I know I'm in the company of friends where my hapless spending will be blindly accepted.

Happy Friday everybody! What are you buying for this upcoming hibernation winter?

autumn luxe

Coat: Nordstrom (similar, similar, similar) / Sweater: Topshop (last year) / Pants: LOFT
Shoes: Zara / Sunglasses: Karen Walker / Lipstick: Topshop 'Wicked'

Yes, this is the coat that I searched high and low and rambled on about in my post here. And these shoes were ones I'd flown all the way to Chicago to find (the closest Zara, cue tears) only to have them fall from my grasp yet again as the store couldn't locate them in their stockroom. Solution? Buy online, trust the size fits, and wait impatiently for the box to arrive.

So although these items may not be actually high-end luxe pieces they certainly feel precious to me.

Hope you all had a good weekend!
Thanks for stopping by!

Coat: AWear (similar) / Dress: Topshop (similar) / Boots: Thrifted
Wig: Thrifted / Sunglasses: Ray-Ban / Lipstick: MAC Ruby Woo

I dressed up as a dalmatian for about four years in a row when I was a kid, so I figured it was time to come full circle. Or maybe it was all my already owned fur coats that got me thinking of Cruella...

Either way, I hope you all had a fun and safe Halloween!
