hushed October morning mild

Coat: Zara (last year, current season or similar) / Turtleneck: Topshop
Jeans: American Eagle / Boots: Joules / Lipstick: Topshop 'Inhibition'

O hushed October morning mild,
Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;
Tomorrow’s wind, if it be wild,
Should waste them all.
-Robert Frost, "October"

I came downstairs in this look and my dad asked if we were going pheasant hunting. Nope, just for some milkshakes. But my British hunting look was quite effective in fact, as it rained, hailed, and snowed in succession while we took these photos. There's Ohio in October for ya. Luckily this Topshop turtleneck (which, unusually, was an unplanned buy - generally I obsess over something there beforehand) is literally the coziest sweater in the world. Seriously. It's so soft I wanna wear it to sleep in.

Also, after 22 years of unadorned ears, I finally did the deed. I hadn't seen the appeal of pierced ears for really anything except diamonds or pearls on your wedding day, but with ear jackets being all the rage, I admit I fell for the style. Plus it's very unlike me to not take advantage of every available accessory. (These are just the starter earrings, medically proofed but not exactly statement-making, but expect new baubles soon!)

Hope you're all having a lovely weekend!

This is one of those TedTalks that spreads far and wide. And it should - because Rita Pierson is an amazing educator and advocate for her students, and her message is just so perfectly conveyed with both humor and heartbreaking honesty. It's from this inspiring video that many of my educator friends get the following quote to plaster around their classroom walls:

I am somebody.
I was somebody when I came.
I'll be a better somebody when I leave.
I am powerful, and I am strong.
I deserve the education that I get here.
I have things to do, people to impress, and places to go.

Dress: Ted Baker (in orange, on sale!) / Jacket: Nordstrom Rack (identical)
Shoes: Jon Josef / Bag: vintage Chanel / Lipstick: MAC "Relentlessly Red"

Well I'm only a month late with these photos. But a month exactly to the day, which in this case actually does count for something. You see, last month my fam and I traveled to Pittsburgh to see my grandpa's last concert with his band, Mac Martin and the Dixie Travelers. It was at the beautiful Pittsburgh Center for the Performing Arts on their outdoor patio, with a full house that even included the mayor! The mayor was there to declare September 17th 2015 officially "Mac Martin Day." So here's the one-month anniversary of that.

 Aren't they just the cutest?

Dressing up was definitely not a requirement, but I did have VIP reserved seats in the front row, so why not? Maybe it wasn't a runway show at New York Fashion Week but I can bet you the music was better than anything they played there. But I may be biased.

currently craving / everything & anything

Haven't done a wishlist in a while, so here's everything that I've had open in my tabs for weeks. Now I can close them all...right after I mull over buying them some more. Didn't even realize as I was putting this together that I made outfits in each row! Look at that. And I guess I could even go further and say I arranged them based on travel: that top row is for casual days in Cleveland as the weather starts to get cool (I neeed that turtleneck sweater dress), the middle row is for glamming it up in New York with an adorable travel guide from Anthropologie, and the last row is for an upcoming trip to England, complete with the cutest lil Double Decker bag you ever did see.
That gorgeous multicolored faux fur coat has been tempting me for weeks. I've tried it on multiple times in the store, gone back, didn't buy it, and finally went determined to purchase it yesterday. Only for it to be gone. Did I give up? No, I bought an Auntie Anne's pretzel and headed to a different store location, where they again did not have it, and proceeded to call other store locations until one did and now I am happy to say it is on its way to me. Phew. The moral of this story, guys, is if you really love something, don't wait. That can apply to relationships I guess, but I'm thinking more discounted coats and like, gooey chocolate cake.

Blouse: vintage (similar) / Jeans: TopshopPurse: vintage Chanel
Shoes: Kate Spade (via The RealReal, here's the current season) / Art by Tony Lewis at MOCA

Am I talking about myself? Am I talking about my purse? My mom's vintage blouse? My shoes? The art museum? The actual piece of art behind me? We just don't know.

Photos thanks to Rachel!
