blogging friends

Sunday, May 31, 2015

Hi all! A quick break from style posts here.

We all know blogging is not a new thing and it has only grown in popularity. It seems everyone and their moms are doing it - and in fact I'm lucky enough to have some friends who do! Blogging can actually be a pretty lonely business if you think about it. It's just you, your camera, and your computer screen. It's great to connect with your readers but often the process of blogging is isolated. So I'm thankful to have some people in my life who know what blogging's all about and who are willing to help each other navigate this weird place called the Internet. So, I'd like to introduce you to them! All of these ladies have so many amazing talents and their blogs reflect their varied interests, so take a peek. (Click on their logos to head on over!)

With credentials at HelloGiggles, Kate uses her blog to share what's hip, what's happening, and what's important. With everything from restaurant reviews, artsy photographs, playlists, personal style, her favorite online articles, and feminist reflections, Kate infuses her blog with every little piece of herself. With a knack for humor and honesty, Kate shares her insights into the goals and resolutions she's working towards and things that you should probably be thinking about, too.

Celine's blog is shaped and informed by her love of travel and all the things that make traveling so great - the culture, the food, the locations, the scenery. Based in LA but always finding ways to get around the world, Celine has an eye for the stylish and trendy while maintaining a deep appreciation for all things historical. From gardens to castles (hence the name!) and museums and restaurants, Celine's here to share her insights with any of those who share her contagious travel bug.

Sarah's blog is for the wanderer in all of us. Her posts are full of eye-catching photographs and creative videos documenting her travels. She's also got the best vacation planning skills of anyone I know - this girl can find a cheap flight to just about anywhere! And, someone after my own heart, Sarah knows all about how important good food is. And good health too: Sarah's dedication to yoga and mindfulness is inspiring but also approachable - she makes it work into your everyday life. And to top it all of, Sarah's got a way with words. Poetry infuses itself in how she thinks and writes, how she looks and interprets the world. Hers is a perspective you won't soon forget.

I may be biased, but these are some great and talented ladies doing important, personal, and inspirational things with their blogs through their sharp, creative, and original voices. Add them to your must-read list right now!!

crop top to bottom

Hat: Yellow 108 (thanks Dad!) / Top: Topshop / Skirt: American Eagle, old (similar, similar)
Sandals: Topshop (in love) / Bag: Talbot's / Cuff: similar / Sunglasses: Karen Walker

SUMMER. If a crop top (albeit with long sleeves), sunglasses, and hat don't mean it's summer, then I'm at a loss. Plus lots of nice greenery and good views don't hurt either. But how are you all, friends? I am all over the place. I'm out of school, I'm back home, I'm off to Georgia, I'm relaxing, I'm working...Blergh. I need a nap. But enough complaining, I should be reveling in the good weather (like I am in these photos) and be thankful that I have something to work for the next couple years. Let the adventure begin, right?

And let's talk for a hot sec about these shoes. Shoes and coats might be my weaknesses when it comes to clothing. Maybe it's because they're the most practical pieces of an ensemble (though I guess pants are practical if you don't want to be caught...not wearing pants...) but I can never convince myself that I have enough. So: new shoes. For summer. Totally reasonable, right? Especially since I'm doing my annual summer closet purge and have I gotten rid of GARBAGE BAGS full of clothes. Only makes sense to fill in the gaps. Perfectly fitting, easy to walk in, go with everything, Topshop sandals-sized gaps. Yes.

OH and yes those are Karen Walkers on my face (that sounds weird). They were a major graduation present courtesy of my parents and I am so obsessed. I mean, who hasn't been? Every "it" fashion blogger and their moms seem to have Karen Walker shades. Never thought I'd get myself in the ranks (somewhat) and I admit I feel a bit like a poser. BUT I DON'T CARE THEY'RE PRETTY AND PRESCRIPTION AND I LOVE THEM!!! Not that you would be able to tell in these photos, with them covering half my face, ooh mystery ooh what is she thinking under there? Right? Right??

Shirt: Old Navy, old (similar) / Overalls: Topshop / Sandals: Steve Madden (sold out, try here)
Necklace: Marc Jacobs (thanks Mom!!) / Sunglasses: Madewell / Purse: Kate Spade (similar, similar)

Let's get the big news out of the way first: well, I graduated from college.

Phew. No need to linger on that, right? And go down memory lane, start to miss my friends, teachers, even the trees...Yeah, no need for that.

So let's talk about...diners? Instead? Yes. Diners. Who doesn't love a good, old-fashioned diner? Remnants of America's bygone halcyon days, yada yada yada. I just like the bright colors and the milkshakes. Especially at this diner - oh Southside. I will write you a sonnet one day about your Oreo cream pie. I guess I can't avoid the collegiate memory lane entirely since this particular diner is just off-campus and is a staple for hungry college students looking to avoid the dining hall on the weekends. So right now my love letter to this place will be in the form of lovingly edited photographs and a entire blog post to it. To Southside Diner, xoxo love me.

Outfit photos thanks to Jenna and Celine!

Jacket: Forever 21 (similar) / Dress: Topshop / Loafers: Jack Wills (sold out online)
Bag: Kate Spade (similar, cheaper option) / Necklace: J.Crew (love this one)

Hello friends! The sun is shining, the stripes are out, the tank is clean. But really: the stripes are out! For a period of my life I was only drawn to striped things in stores. Specifically navy and white stripes. Thankfully I've purged most of my repeats by now, but a time there it was inevitable that I wore something with stripes. It's been a bit since that time now, so I figured doubling the stripes wouldn't hurt. In fact, it's refreshing.

I think this might be the debut of my monogram flats? Jack Wills does it again, ladies and gents. Making dreams come true. Or, well, they do if you happen to be someone like me with the initials JW and a love for velvet smoking slippers. If that's the case, then we're in heaven, my friends.

I hope you all are having a lovely May! Uh as for me, I'm graduating in three days? What?

Photos thanks to Liz!

tweet, tweet

Thursday, May 7, 2015

So I used to have a Twitter. Five years ago (isn't that about when it started?). And all I did was tweet at celebrities and try and get them to notice me. Not this time. This time it's all about ME. Literally - I don't think I have too many entertaining thoughts that need to be shared with the twittersphere, but I DO have many great outfits that need all the shameless promotion they can get. Right? Do it for the outfits.

So, uh, follow me?

Dress: 23 Skidoo (sold out, but love this one or this one)
Jacket: Levi's / Sandals: DV by Dolce Vita (last year, love these or these)

Dare I say it's spring finally?! Maybe even close to, no that's too much. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. But I can safely say that yesterday - my last day of undergraduate classes! - was a pretty perfect day: brunch with friends, cheese and cider and James Joyce, ice cream and English majors, BBQ and horses, and a birthday bash to round it off. Phew! Luckily this darling dress saw me through it all. It's a custom made number from 23 Skidoo, a boutique based in Cleveland. The original pattern was an inverse with the red as the accents and the playful map of Cleveland (yes, how amazing is that??) as the whole of the dress. I was a bit late to the game so luckily my mom and Courtney McCrone, the owner of 23 Skidoo, whipped up my very own version of the Cleveland Skadette dress. I absolutely adore it and couldn't think of a better way to have spent a day wearing it!

Hope you all are doing well! And if you've got finals - Romeo here knows you can do it!!

Photos thanks to Lily!
